The Cinque Terre are #plasticfree

The Cinque Terre National Parkagainst the abandonment of plastic waste at sea . According to EU directives, starting from 2021, the most common single-use plastic products for which there are already non-plastic alternatives, such as cottonfioc, cutlery, straws, will be banned. Other measures aim to reduce the consumption of plastic products that are thrown more frequently into waste, to extend the responsibility of producers, to change the design of some products and to inform and make consumers more aware. All oxo-degradable plastic products will also be banned.

The Medsealitter project was attended by 10 partners from 4 European countries (Italy, Spain, France and Greece). Through a collaboration network between Protected Marine Areas - supported by research institutes, environmental associations and universities - it has allowed for the first time to develop a shared monitoring protocol for floating solid waste in the Mediterranean Sea.
